The Leaf Stories Book
The moment you have been waiting for has finally arrived! Buddings has published our fall book The Leaf Stories, stories and pictures by some of the kids at Buddings.
You may recall that back in the fall we went on a fieldtrip Collecting Leaves and Climbing Trees. The fall leaves collected on this walk were brought back to Buddings and used to create some magnificent fall pictures. The kids then told the story of the picture and the teachers wrote it down. The children loved hearing their own words spoken back to them as the teacher’s read them their story. The Leaf Stories is a collection of these creative stories and a wonderful representation of a long-term project that the kids worked on this fall.
Below you will find a photo of each page of our book and the story written below it. Some of the stories are funny, some are scary, and some are in a genre all their own. All are unique and fabulous! Of course, the real version of the book lives at Buddings where all the children can enjoy it. Next time you come in, feel free to have a look!
Our Falling for Nature program will continue on Mondays in the winter. If you have any creative ideas or questions about the program, please email Jen at preschoolers@buddings.ca

Malcolm’s Leaf Picture
This story is bigger than words. It tells itself, or maybe it’s up the reader to decide. Malcolm has left it up for interpretation.
Emma’s Story
Once upon a time, Emma found a bunch of leaves, stole a pine cone, and was riding an elephant named Ainsey. Ainsey was a very fast elephant and she really really wanted to go for a ride. She was riding through the Everest forest. She also really loved eating pine needles. She really wanted Emma to give her a drink at the oasis. When they got there, Emma went for a swim and Ainsey took a drink. On the way home Ainsey said, “I want to go to the playground to see my friend Tina the elephant. Then Tina and Ainsey took a nap in the flowers they saw. And that’s the end of the story!
Zoe’s Story
There was a girl and a dog who were looking for leaves. But the dog was eating the leaves so the girl couldn’t see any leaves. There were no more leaves left in the fall. The end.
Heron’s Story
This picture is so funny that I can’t tell you. “Ha!” It’s too funny! I glued some glue onto the eyeballs. The leaves are the feet of the bird. It’s even too funny that I can’t laugh! The birds are cheeping around in their nest. It is raining a lot and thry’re hiding. The picture has crickets and the birds are hiding from the crickets otherwise the crickets will eat them. The end.
Maya’s Story
This is mom working. No that’s me, I’m working! Once upon a time there was a princess Maya who has to go pee. Her mom was saying “You have to go on the potty to pee.” But Maya didn’t want to. She decided to go to the park with mom to play and drink some water. Maya brought a baby and decided to play. Maya wanted to play with Denet at her house. And the baby was gone! She was hiding in the leaves. “Finally” said Spiderman. The end.
Roger’s Story
My joke is “Look it’s funny now!” Crumble time! The leaves and pinecone are laughing. It’s funny! The big pile of leaves sticked on.
Gabby’s Story
One day there was a monster and he said “No!” really loud and laughed “Ha ha ha!” He wanted a friend, a big friend to play with. A leaf fell out of the tree and fell on the monster. He was thinking of a monster friend and he said “Roar, roar, roar!” He wanted a surprise like a toy. The end.
Lucas’ Story
This is a creature monster. The monster is roaring. It is scary. The monster says “Boo!”
Lilah’s Story
This is a scary picture. These are monster eyes. The monster says “Boo!” The leaf is another creature, it’s a monster. There are lots of eyeballs on the picture. The googly eyes google. There’s a circle, a round circle. There is a tennis racquet for tennising. The monsters are playing tennis.
