Collecting Leaves and Climbing Trees
The fall weather has meant lots of wind and rain, but last Monday we were lucky enough to have a break in the weather for our autumn walk to Charleson Park. The kids set out in partners to collect their favorite coloured leaves to bring back to Buddings. Of course we took in all the amazing sights along the way!

New Discoveries in Nature
Going out in nature with kids always leads to new discoveries! There are bugs to observe, leaves and sticks of different shapes and colours, birds that make different sounds – there are an endless amount of things to be excited about. Outside the environment provides lots of fun challenges too – instead of a flat floor to run on, we now have a dimpled carpet of grass, abound with boulders and stumps that need to be maneuvered over or around. The kids discovered a tree that they were convinced they could climb. The branches were spread out and low to the ground and provided them with a perfect natural jungle gym! We encouraged all the kids to “find their own way” allowing them to choose the challenge that suited them best. Teachers were there for guidance and hand holding when requested, but for the most part, the kids wanted to do this on their own and were so proud when they reached their goal!

The imagination goes wild when children are in nature. Surrounded by a ceiling of branches, the kids stood on top of their rock lookouts in their castles in the forest. With inspiration from our walk, the kids will be making a page for our Leaf Stories book. Here are a couple of examples.
