Traveling to Brazil and dancing samba!

This last Friday in our  “Exploring Dance Class” we traveled all the way to Brazil. Kids saw a big map of the world and we saw where do we live and where is Brazil located. Brazil is very far from were we live!

We danced to music from this country. One of the most popular dances is called samba. To dance samba we have to move our feet super fast. We all agreed it’s kind of tricky. We saw a short video of dancers dancing some samba and we all liked it a lot.

The kids really liked the costumes the dancers were wearing. Nina said they looked like princesses. We all loved their costumes so much that we had to make our own feather hats.

We add sparkles, feathers, and we even used some markers and crayons to give them some extra colors.

These are some of the things we learned about Brazil:

– In Brazil they speak a language called Portuguese.

– Brazil contains almost 60 percent of the Amazon rain forest. We did some yoga to imitate everything we can find in the rain forest: big trees, rocks,  and so many animals.

-There are lots of monkeys in Brazil: There are more species of monkeys in Brazil than anywhere else in the world.

-There’s a big statue in Brazil and is one of the 7 Wonders of the World.

-We learned that a carnival is a big party that people do. In Brazil a lot of people dress up for this party by using special costumes with lots of feathers and use colorful necklaces. So we wore some necklaces and later we danced with them.

It was really fun to find out more about another country and get to dance their music. Come and join us for next Friday class so we can keep exploring dance all over the world!
