Childcare Training Available

September 14, 2012

The Training and Experience Internship started this week, and we’ve had each of the girls in helping on the floor. So far… it’s going great! 🙂

They’re going to be doing an average of 12 hours a week with us from now until Dec. 21, and they’ll be taking courses and training throughout that time. In fact, we’re bringing in a Red Cross certified trainer to do the 8-hour Childcare Emergency First Aid course on Sunday Oct. 14, at Buddings, and we have 6 more spaces available.

If you’d like to learn brush up your skills when it comes to children’s first aid, including CRP, defibrillator use for children, and common childhood ailments, join us! The cost is $95.20 per person and you will receive certification for 3 years, a handbook, and a tonne of super useful and relevant knowledge about caring for children. We have 6 spaces left so let us know!

We’ve also been given the opportunity to bring a licensed instructor to Buddings for the “Responsible Adult” course. This is a 20 hour program and will be delivered by a in four 5-hour blocks, on Sundays from Oct. 21 – Nov. 18 (with no class on Nov. 11). It covers child guidance and development, safety, nutrition, and activity planning, and includes all your course materials and a recognized certificate at the end. To take the course at Buddings, the cost is $200 (inc. tax), and we have 5 spaces available. We are only accepting 10 participants, compared to the 25 who would usually be enrolled with Westcoast, so it’s a great opportunity to get up close and personal with the instructor, as well as a condensed format, running from 10am to 3:30pm on weekends.

This course is recommended for anyone working with children, and has been accepted and endorsed by the YMCA (Canada’s largest providers of daycare), for offering a complete range of necessary information.

Contact Talia (talia@buddings.ca) to enquire about a space for yourself in either course, or bring a friend and do it together.
