“Adios” to Denet… or maybe not
When Denet started working with us in April of this year, we were thrilled to have her. She has a wonderfully soft heart, an eager and energetic mind, and a real passion for caring for kids. Plus, she brought diversity and a unique perspective to our centre. If you haven’t been following along, Denet is from Mexico.
In the months that she’s been here, our buddies have fallen in love with her. Parents have been excited that their kids are being exposed to Spanish words and expressions, and the rest of the team at Buddings will tell you every time that Denet is the sweetest, most generous person to work with. She truly loves to be loved, and we all love her to pieces.
But, she is from Mexico.
Last month, her work permit in Canada expired, and her application to have it extended was rejected. She was given a temporary permit until the decision came back, but it will soon be revoked and we will have to say “Adios” to our dear Denet… but hopefully not for long.
Moving to a foreign country isn’t easy, but since arriving here in 2012, Denet has made a place for herself in Vancouver. She has friends, and a job, and people who love her. This is where her life is and we don’t want to lose her!
As her employer, if we can’t find a qualified Canadian candidate to do her job, Buddings can apply for a “Labour Market Opinion” decision, that could reinstate her work permit. We have posted an ad for a Daycare Teacher and Dance Instructor, and will be reviewing resumes for at least 4 weeks.
If we haven’t found someone by then, we will apply to Service Canada to reconsider extending her permit for another year. That application process takes some time though, so no matter how it all works out, we will likely have to lose her for a while over the winter.
Plus, it costs a big, round $1,000…
We’ll keep you informed about the application status and how our recruiting goes. In the meantime, if your child has been talking about her before they fall asleep, or dancing some of the moves she’s taught them, make sure you take a moment to let her know how much she means to you and your family. You can reach her at denet@buddings.ca.
