Is that a guarantee?

We moved this week! In case setting up and opening a daycare in 3 weeks isn’t enough to do, Law and I jumped on the chance to move to a suite on the South side of our building. It’s bigger and has a WAY bigger yard than our old place, and with the Earth on its angled axis, we would not see the sun again for 5 months on the North side.

The new apt. is so much bigger that we do not have near enough furniture, and the yard is a total mess, but I’m not going to think about it until we get everything at Buddings under control. Maybe by November?

But so, with the new place, we decided to get a Simply Clear baby monitor, for when Hunter is here. He’s a pretty sound sleeper anyway, and when he’s around, we keep it low-key, but now when we duck over to the neighbours’ we’ll bring the speaker with us. 🙂

The little machine was $29.97 at Toys R’ Us and as we were checking out, the clerk asked if we wanted to pay $5.99 for the extra 15 month ADH (accidental damage from handling) warranty, which applies to electronics and some other stuff. The store’s standard 45 day return policy still applies, she explained, but if anything happens to the machine in the next 15 months, we call the number on the info package, and they send us a Toys R’ Us gift card. They don’t usually even need to see the device, apparently.

I’m not usually one for added fee “insurance.” Lawrence is, I’m not. It always seems like a scam. Or set up for people totally different from us. For example, when we met, he was paying an extra $7/month on his phone plan for “accident” insurance. If he ever lost or broke his $350 Blackberry, he would only have to pay $150 to replace it. After over a year, he lost the phone and bought a new one off of Craigslist for $60.

Anyway, in this case, I took the insurance, as a test. I can’t imagine what could happen to it, but who knows? That’s what insurance is for. If I’m out on the sidewalk and it drops… Or maybe it will self-combust. Either way, I’m covered. Supposedly.
