Building Giant Structures

This month at Buddings the theme is all about HOMES. On our fieldtrip to the downtown library on Monday, we saw many tall tall buildings. This inspired us to build some of our own giant structures on Wednesday at Buddings!

We used wooden blocks, cardboard cubes, legos, and best of all, pillows and stuffies to create a fun fort! Once we had our fort built the kids were so excited that they started a new game. Special faeries came and sprinkled faerie dust on everything. The game was created out of the kids own imaginations!

We teachers normally have themed activities planned for each day, but often the kids’ own ideas takeover the fun and we run with that. Child-centred play is so meaningful for children and it helps them feel that their ideas are heard and valued. Play is child’s work and they are so good at it! By allowing the children to contribute to the planning of our program and taking the lead in games and activities, we help them build confidence and develop a plethora of social skills like communication, compromise, and working together! Hooray for play!
